You Can Beat the Summer Heat

Summer heat can be overwhelming. Too much heat can be risky if you are older or have health problems. Plan ahead for hot days and if you don’t have air conditioning, a location near you may. Think of senior centers, libraries and even shopping malls. You can beat the summer heat with some tips and helpful suggestions.

Ask a friend or relative for assistance if you need help getting to a cooler place. Some religious groups, senior centers, and Area Agencies on Aging  provide air-conditioned centers. Use the Eldercare Locator to find services in your area.

If you need to be somewhere, consider taking a taxi or other car service or calling your local government to see if they offer senior transportation. Don’t stand outside in the heat waiting for a bus. TRA schedules medical transportation for older adults 60+ and adults 21+ with low vision.
