A great favorite with his riders during normal times, Joe and other TRA volunteer drivers spent the pandemic delivering food pantry items in underserved communities. When not driving or attending to TRA board business, Joe was volunteering at the Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation, White Plains, and was a member of the Westchester Beemer Motorcycle Club.
Both he and his wife, Anne, are well known for their work with ARC Westchester. Joe retired in 2017 as Senior VP and Chief Marketing Officer at two subsidiaries of GenRe (a member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of insurance companies) after a 32 year career.
