Another feather in her cap! On the heels of being honored with a Westfair Communications C-Suite Award, Catherine Wynkoop, TRA President, has been recognized as one of 43 “Women of Distinction” in the New York State 93rd Assembly District.
Honored for her dedication to helping older adults in Westchester and the region remain independent for as long as possible, Wynkoop received the honor at an awards ceremony led by Assemblymember Chris Burdick.
“I am awed by the breadth of talent and passion these women have for their communities, said Burdick. “It is truly my privilege to honor them for making a difference in the lives of others, and in so many different ways. I am so grateful for each and every one of them, and honored that, as their representative to the NYS Assembly, I get to recognize them for the amazing and inspiring women that they are.”
In presenting the Women of Distinction Award to Wynkoop, he noted that she has tackled head-on the challenges older adults face when remaining independent in their homes as they age.
“With expertise gained from a successful career in public health planning and social policy, community/home health administration, and healthcare, she has galvanized partners and resources to create Aging in Place programs and services which have collectively served thousands of older adults in Westchester County and the region during the past 15 years.”
Burdick congratulated Wynkoop on the success of TRA, formerly known as WestFair Rides, which has provided over 21,000 rides to medical appointments for older adults (age 60+) and adults with low vision (age 21+) since the organization’s founding in 2011. Under her leadership, the organization has entered a new era, and in 2022 adopted a new name to better reflect and communicate its mission and work to those in need.
Now known as TRA —which stands for Transportation, Resources, Access —the organization continues to help older adults and adults with disabilities access a variety of services and supports.
For her part, Wynkoop noted that while it was an honor to be recognized for her efforts, the real reward is seeing how TRA’s services benefit so many.
“I’m humbled, of course. It was an honor to be recognized among so many talented and accomplished women,” said Wynkoop. “It’s especially gratifying to be involved in work that has helped thousands of people live independently and experience a good quality of life.”
