Imagine needing to go to the doctor but not being able to drive yourself there. Or not knowing how to learn about veterans’ services, access local food pantries, or apply for affordable housing. There are thousands of older adults and adults with low vision who lack access to medical transportation and/or information needed to help them lead productive lives.
Since 2011, our organization has been on a mission to meet their needs. We provide medical transportation services in Westchester County, medical rides from Westchester to Greenwich and Stamford Hospitals and medical rides from southwest Connecticut to Westchester. We provide information and referral for services in Westchester and the region.
We know that getting to the doctor is essential for older adults to maintain good health. TRA addresses that need by recruiting and vetting volunteer drivers to help their neighbors get to healthcare appointments, free of charge, in Westchester County. We also drive Westchester residents to Greenwich and Stamford Hospitals in Connecticut and residents of southwest Connecticut to appointments in Westchester.
By creating access to transportation, TRA helps older adults age 60+ and adults with low vision age 21+ to live independently and engage with members of the community.
The TRA Call Center provides a range of transportation and aging in place-related services. We enroll riders, manage rider requests, and notify drivers of pending rides. When TRA is not able to provide a ride, our Call Center team researches and refers clients to other available ride options, often helping to coordinate end-to-end service. The Call Center integrates with the TRA Resource Hub, a clearinghouse of resources, information and referral services designed to provide seamless access to services for older adults age 60+ and adults with low vision age 21+, their caregivers, and families.
TRA’s ultimate goal is to give older adults, caregivers, and community members centralized access to healthcare and social services that is just a phone call or a click away. We’re developing a comprehensive hub of resources and aspire to create a collaborative network of service providers willing to engage in a One Call/One-Click regional system to support older adults and adults with disabilities by phone, chat, email, and text.
